No dorms?! Where can I live?
Vanguard College is a non-resident campus. We believe it is a great experience for our students to get out and live in the real world while they are attending Vanguard. This has been our philosophy for over 50 years, and it has always served us and our students well.
There are many affordable apartments in the college area. Through a unique program called the Second Home Initiative, the Vanguard Housing Coordinator (contact the Housing Coordinator) will help you locate possible apartments and/or roommates.

How does payment for the program work?
School costs. And it costs a lot. That's the unfortunate fact. However, we have way of making that worthwhile investment easier to swallow.
There are many ways to fund your Vanguard education, from studentloans to scholarships and many things in-between. You can view our full financial information page by cliking here.
Once you know how you will pay, it is good to know that you don't need to pay all at once at Vanguard. Payment for each semester of the program is due on registration day for that semester.
So, right away, on registration day, $6000 becomes $3000. And you can break it down even more.
Vanguard college offers a payment plan. On registration day, you MUST pay half of that semester's tuition, as well as fees and books. A month later, you will need to pay 25% more, and a month after that, the final 25%. So, here is an example payment schedule ...
September 6 - $3000 (plus fees and books)
October 6 - $1500
November 6 - $1500
And then that semester is covered! You can start the process over again the next semester. PLEASE NOTE :: This payment program does not apply to IBOLT courses. For full details on Vanguard financial information, click here.
Can I work?
Yes! It is understandable taht you will neede some income for living while attending Vanguard. Also, Vanguard is big on people living in the real world and rubbing shoulders with people, just like Jesus did.
However, working more than 12 hours a week is discouraged because of your ample schoolwork and practicum load. If you wish to work over 12 hours a week, permission, depending on on your academic standing and other commitments, may be granted to you.
What will a typical day at Vanguard be like for me?
Classes can begin as early as 8:00 am and go as late as 3:00 pm, depending on which classes you are taking. Each block is either 50 minutes long ( Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or 75 minutes long (Tuesday and Thursday). It is not common for astudent to have their day full, from 8-3. And, in the cases when the student does have a class at 8 and at 3, they will likely have spares in between.Your course load and the electives you take will determine what your schedule will be, when you start each day, when you finish, and when you have spares. You can e-mail the college to request a timetable tht will help you predict your course schedule more precisely.
What types of ministry involvement does Vanguard offer?
All students of vanguard college are required to do "Field Education". This basically means practical ministry - hads-on learning. this can take the form of a traditional church ministry setting (ie. youth leader, worship team, Sunday School coordinator), in campus ministry (eg. lead a Christian group at the University), or in a para-church organization (eg. Pregnancy Counseling Centre, Hope Mission). All students are expected to find a placement, and there are ample placements available with assistance offered for those who may have difficulty finding one. Mentoring in these placements is intentional, as each student reports on-site to a supervisor, who must report back to Vanguard on the student's progress. Vanguard has successfully offered this kind of hands-on training, to compliment our excellent in-class instruction, for over 50 years. We hope you can come and find your place to serve an grow!
You can read more about our Field Education programs here.
What if I want to continue towards a Bachelor of Arts Degree after my First Year?
No Problem! Vanguard’s 1 Year Certificates are very similar if not identical to the first year of their 4-year Bachelor of Arts Degree counterparts in each program. No need to start over again, just keep on going like you were here to do four years all along! This allows you to take your education one step at a time, and if God should call you into full-time minstry during that 1 Year program, you are preapred to move ahead, no time lost.
What is the Second Home Initiative?
We realized that moving to come to College is not an easy transition to make, and we wanted to do something to help with that. thus, the Second Home Initiative was born. This initiative is focussed on making Vanguard your Second Home, as much as possible, as quickly and painlessy as possible. It includes things like our Housing Office, to help you find a place to stay near the college, airport pickups for arriving students, help moving in, campus safety measures, and much more.

I am not from Canada. What do I need to know about studying at Vanguard College?
We welcome international students at Vanguard College - from the USA to Uganda! We have recently had students here from as far as the Congo, Slovakia, Asia, Brazil and many more places around the world. However, it is not always simple for an international student to study in Canada.
The Candian Government has some specific guidelines about coming to study in Canada. You shoudl look into such matters carefully. And if you find the move too great to undertake, you can always study online, from right where you are, with IBOLT.com, Vanguard's official Distance Education provider.
