International applicants are only permitted to apply for our September intake.

Part A of the International Application is due:
February 1st for September Intake

Applicants who do not meet the English Language Requirements of TOEFL or IELTS and do not provide complete information in Part A will not be permitted to proceed to Part B.  

Part B of the International Application is due:
March 1st for September Intake

Academic Entrance Requirements

High School Diploma

  • Applicants are required to possess the equivalent of a valid Canadian Grade 12 High School Diploma.  An official transcript, indicating subjects studied and grades received, must accompany the application.  Documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by a notarized English translation and a transcript legend must be provided.

Application Process

On-Campus Application for Admission Part A includes the following:

  • Personal Information including Citizenship
  • Application Fee ($100)
  • TOEFL or IELTS Score (Official Documentation must be sent in Part B)
  • Previous Academic Information including copies of all Transcripts for High School and Post-Secondary Education
  • Financial Plan
  • Sponsorship Information

On-Campus Application for Admission Part B includes the following:

  • Application Fee ($150)
  • Form A: Academic Reference (Teacher, Counselor or Dean) or Employer reference
  • Form B: Pastor's Reference
  • Official High School Transcripts (Notarized English translation and Transcript legend required)
  • Official Report of TOEFL or IELTS
  • Police Check for Vulnerable Sector

References provided by family members are not acceptable.

Online Students can complete our regular Application for Admission if you are planning on completing all your studies online and will not need a study permit for Canada.

English Language Requirements

Vanguard College will require that an English Language proficiency test be submitted as part of the application for applicants who do not meet one of the exemptions listed below.

  1. You lived and attended high school or university for at least four consecutive years in a country where English is the acknowledged primary language.
  2. You completed a French Baccalaureate - 'Option Internationale' (British or American section).
  3. You completed an International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Group 1 English (Language A: Literature, Language A: Language and Literature, or Literature and Performance) with a '5' or better.
  4. You completed English as Language 1 or 2 in the European Baccalaureate curriculum (in the Schola Europaea system).
  5. You completed the British Curriculum A-Level Engish with a final grade of 'C' or better.
  6. You completed the British Curriculum GCSE/IGCSE/GCE O-Level English, English Language, English First Language, or English as a Second Language with a final grade of 'B' / '5' or better.

Applicants who have completed studies in English equivalent to a Canadian Grade 12 Diploma with a minimum of 60% in all core subjects may be considered for Part B of the application process.

If you answered 'no' to all the above exemptions, you must provide proof of English language proficiency. To determine your preparedness for post-secondary studies, you are required to complete a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.

  • An acceptable TOEFL score will be 550 for the paper-based test, 197 on the computer-based test or 86 on the internet test, with a minimum score of 21 in each section.
  • An acceptable IELTS overall score will be 6.5, with minimum individual band scores of 5.0.

Applicants already residing in Canada who do not need to acquire a Canada Student Visa or Study Permit can also complete the Canadian Language Benchmark Test (CLB).

  • An acceptable CLB score will be Stage III - Advanced Level 10.

International Student Support Services

At Vanguard College, we believe that supporting our international students is a joint effort. To achieve this, our Director of Admissions, Campus Life Pastor, and Assistant Registrar provide various kinds of support, including airport pick-up, assistance with moving into student housing, grocery runs, tours of the city, medical and counselling services, and academic advising.

When international students arrive at Vanguard, they take part in our All School Orientation and are also invited to attend a specific International Student Orientation.

Our Assistant Registrar regularly checks in with our international students to ensure that they are adjusting well to their new surroundings, and they are always available to answer any questions throughout the duration of our students' education at Vanguard College.

Medical Insurance

We recommend that students have health insurance prior to arriving in Canada until other arrangements can be made.

The Government of Canada does not pay for the medical costs of foreign students. You may be able to apply for AHCIP.

After-Degree Program Entrance Requirements

To qualify for the Bachelor of Theology (After Degree/Diploma program), applicants must meet the following prerequisite requirements: 

  • A 3-year diploma or degree (90 credits minimum) or 4-year bachelor’s degree
    from an accredited institution (120 credits minimum). 
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in their previously completed diploma or
    degree program.
  • 21 credits of General Studies courses demonstrating breadth of study in the
    following areas completed in the areas of Communication, Humanities/Fine Arts,
    Natural Science/Mathematics, and Social/Behavioral Sciences.  
  • Applicants who are lacking these prerequisites will be required to complete extra
    course work alongside the BTh After-Degree program requirements.   
  • The following General Studies courses may be recommended to cover
    prerequisites not previously completed: 
                      o English  
                      o Communication 
                      o Developmental Psychology 
                      o Introduction to Psychology 
                      o Worldviews  
                      o Philosophy 
                      o Ethics 

*All international diploma or degree credentials will need to be accompanied by an international credential evaluation by either the World Education Services (WES) or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

*All course equivalencies will be assessed and considered on an individual basis and completed by the Registrar.

Study Online

International applicants interested in online studies are not required to complete the two-part application process outlined above. Applicants are required to possess the equivalent of a valid Canadian Grade 12 High School Diploma. An official transcript, indicating subjects studied and grades received, must accompany the application. Documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by a notarized English translation.

Applicants who have studies outside of Canada or USA are required to take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to indicate their proficiency in written and spoken English. A police check will need to be completed before official acceptance. Vanguard Online students must complete the Orientation to Online Learning Course with a minimum grade of B before beginning their studies.

Since you are able to complete your studies online, you can study from wherever you are!  That means that a study visa is not required. You can complete our regular application form for admission.
